Collections
The total collection of the Judiciary Library is about 160,000
volumes basically of common law materials housed mainly in the High
Court Library, Court of Final Appeal Library and District Court
Library. Many smaller collections are located in the chambers, magistracies
and tribunals. Approximately 52,000 volumes of books and serials
are located in the High Court Library and about 7,000 volumes are
in each of the other two libraries at the Court of Final Appeal
and the District Court. Most of the materials in the collection
are in English.
Judgments
In addition, the High Court Library also has a sizeable invaluable
collection of some 40,000 unreported judgments of Hong Kong, which
went back to 1946.
Chinese Language Materials and Electronic Materials
There is a collection of about 2,200 volumes of Chinese language
materials, which is still expanding. The Library has a number
of CD-ROM items which are accessible by library patrons.
Serials Collection
Over two thirds of the book stock are in serials comprising case
law reports, statutes, legislation, other government official documents
and journals primarily of Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China,
U.K. and selectively of Australia, Canada and other common law countries.
The Hong Kong materials are quite complete. The U.K. materials are
extensive. The collection is, however, growing and would include
new specialized case law reports and periodicals. There are approximately
800 serial titles on subscription. About half of these are loose-leaf
items.
